Waiting for the Sixties
Growing up in the 1950's was serious
business. A feeling of imminent doom
hovered over each of us as we pondered the implications of
what seemed an inevitable nuclear
conflagration. We were ashamed of our
parents' explicit racism and appalled
by the
plundering of our natural resources. We
hoped that the 60's philosophy of
consciousness-raising and idyllic goal of
a world governed by the principles of peace,
love and happiness would usher in the "Age
of Aquarius." You know the rest of the story.
